Just a thought…
Do you know the definition of ‘Civility’?
Wait, what am I asking, of course you know what civility is? But, for all those who might NOT know what it means here’s the definition from Miriam Websters:
1. a: civilized conduit
Especially Courtesy or Politeness
b: a polite act or kindness
2. training in the humanities (archaic)
OK, did you get all that? I’m sure you did, being as smart as you are. Now, if we know what civility is and we know its the kind of thing that separates the High minded from the Low bow, doesn’t it seem like civility is missing from a lot of places? I don’t see a bunch of it in the world when I go out and it sure left the area when it comes to Sports. Do you think you’d find it in Politics? Oh Noooo, civility took the last train out of Clarksville a long time ago when it comes to Politics.
Now, I’m not talking about respecting each other, like letting each of us live our own lives according to OUR OWN principles and morals. It would be asking just too much for the society of today to NOT go and be that old lady standing by her living room window with high-powered binoculars watching every little movement in the neighborhood and driving the police crazy with dozens of calls every day.
And we won’t talk about how she acts at night.
So, if we can’t leave each other be then we better be civil, right? I mean being polite is the only way we keep from punching each other out in the streets for, oh I don’t know, being different. We had better be nice to each other cause we sure do not regard each other with any kind of compassion. Yes, I will give you those rare occasions, and YouTube videos, where some moment of humanity slips through and a glimmer of hope pops up. We do like each other, your mind whispers, and then you go to some media outlet see the news and that whisper dies pretty quick.
Yeah, we really don’t like each other that much, and it doesn’t take a person with perfect vision to see it.
Guess that’s why I keep to myself and out of society’s spotlight, just not worth it.
